Despite being the cheapest Android model from Hiby works in class A. Overall it is a decent Dap that delivers enough power for any IEM and many headphones. It features Pentacon balanced and unbalanced 3.5 output. The type C usb is OTG making it possible to connect it to an external dac thus using only the Streamer function but the same usb port is used for charging thus making it impossible for continuous use for a fixed location. The Android version is Android 8, which is outdated and the only 2 GRam makes the user experience frustrating at times due to lag and jams. The custom system makes useful switches such as switching to Class A or equalizer available in the drop-down menu.
With headphone use, the sound performance is close to a HiFi rendition, pleasing music lovers but not audiophiles whose ears are usually spoiled for blacker backgrounds and sharper detail. The Class A switch improves listening quality by making the sound pleasantly warm, positioning instruments correctly on stage, and offering sufficient sound width without yet achieving audiophile quality.
In conclusion Hiby R5 II is a good device that provides about 8 hours of listening time in class A and over 20 in AB but good does not mean great and less than ever excellent. For mobility a good amp/dac to connect to the smartphone remains a better alternative to an audiophile’s ear. The lover of good sound and practicality, on the other hand, is fully satisfied.
